Students of UNIZIK High School in Awka, Anambra State, have received safety education on the dangers of electricity misuse as FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited stepped up efforts to prevent avoidable electrical accidents.
The awareness campaign was organised as part of the company’s activities to mark the end of its 2026 Customer Service Week. The initiative focused on equipping young people with practical knowledge of how to identify electrical hazards and protect themselves from potential dangers in their homes and school environment.
During the programme, the company’s Head of Health, Safety and Environment, Tosin Fadairo, highlighted the risks associated with exposed cables, faulty electrical installations and careless handling of electrical appliances. He urged the students to avoid contact with damaged wires and seek assistance from qualified personnel whenever they noticed electrical faults.
The exercise also provided an opportunity for students to interact with the company’s representatives and learn more about preventive safety measures. FirstPower’s Head of Customer Service, Obianuju Okafor, encouraged the pupils to share the lessons with their families, while the company distributed writing materials and gift items during the visit.
The school’s principal, Mrs Atinuke Israel, commended the electricity distribution company for extending its safety education to students. FirstPower said the outreach reflected its commitment to public education and customer engagement, with emphasis on building safer attitudes towards electricity use among children and young people.
