Arsenal produced a spirited comeback to hold Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night. Declan Rice emerged as the decisive figure, scoring eight minutes before full time to prevent the German side from claiming all three points.
The Gunners made an early change after winger Bukayo Saka was forced off with an injury. His replacement, Eberechi Eze, made an immediate impact by opening the scoring in the 25th minute, finishing a well-timed pass from captain Martin Ødegaard to give Arsenal the advantage.
Bayern responded ten minutes later when Alphonso Davies found the net after receiving a precise through-ball from Harry Kane. The hosts then completed their comeback in the 61st minute, with Kane converting a penalty awarded after Jurrien Timber handled the ball inside the box.
With defeat looming, Arsenal increased the pressure and eventually found their breakthrough in the 82nd minute. Rice finished off an attacking move involving substitutes Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyökeres, firing past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to restore parity and silence the home crowd.
The result gives Arsenal seven points from their opening three Champions League matches, while Bayern remain on five points. However, Arsenal’s celebrations were tempered by concerns over Saka’s fitness, with the extent of the winger’s injury yet to be established. Both teams will now turn their attention to their next European fixtures as the league phase continues.
