Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s first term has sparked renewed debate over whether his administration should be given another term to consolidate its development programmes. Supporters argue that projects initiated since he took office in 2023 need sufficient time to deliver lasting benefits to residents.

Education has emerged as one of the administration’s major areas of focus, with the state reporting the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools across its political wards. The programme includes modern classrooms, digital learning facilities, laboratories and solar power, alongside initiatives aimed at improving teaching and student welfare.

The government has also highlighted investments in healthcare and infrastructure, including primary healthcare centres across the state, the Enugu International Hospital and extensive road construction and rehabilitation. Other projects cited include improvements to public transport, the launch of Enugu Air and efforts to restore water supply in parts of the state capital.

Another area attracting attention is the state’s revenue growth. The administration reportedly increased internally generated revenue from approximately ₦26 billion in 2022 to more than ₦400 billion in 2025, while setting an ambitious target for expanding Enugu’s economy. However, questions remain about the cost of projects and how directly their benefits are reaching ordinary citizens.

Advocates of continuity maintain that a second term could help complete ongoing initiatives and translate infrastructure investments into better public services and economic opportunities. Ultimately, Enugu residents will have the final say on the governor’s political future, weighing the administration’s reported achievements against its challenges and their expectations for further development.
