Dangote Cement Plc has held an engagement with its truck drivers in Ogun State to discuss workplace challenges, road safety and measures to improve their welfare, as the company seeks to strengthen safety standards across its transport operations.
The retreat provided an opportunity for drivers and management representatives to exchange views on issues affecting daily operations, with particular attention to responsible driving, compliance with traffic regulations and the need to prevent accidents involving heavy-duty trucks.
The company reiterated the importance of ensuring that drivers understand the risks associated with long-distance transportation and take necessary precautions while on the road. Drivers were encouraged to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition before embarking on journeys.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of drivers’ physical and mental fitness, particularly in preventing fatigue-related accidents. Participants were urged to prioritise adequate rest and avoid practices that could endanger their lives or the safety of other road users.
Beyond road safety, the meeting offered a platform to address concerns surrounding working conditions and employee welfare. The engagement underscored the importance of communication between management and drivers in identifying operational difficulties and developing practical solutions.
Dangote Cement has continued to pursue measures aimed at reducing truck-related accidents through driver education, improved monitoring systems and stricter enforcement of safety rules. The company maintains that responsible driving requires both individual discipline and institutional support.
The retreat forms part of broader efforts to promote professionalism among truck drivers and ensure safer transportation of cement across the country. By encouraging dialogue and reinforcing safety procedures, the company aims to protect its workforce, other motorists and communities along its transport routes.
