The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Funso Doherty, has unveiled a social welfare agenda centred on making education and basic healthcare accessible to residents if elected in 2027.
Doherty said his proposed administration would abolish financial barriers that prevent children from attending public schools, with plans to cover essential academic expenses.
He also promised to strengthen support for pupils through school feeding and transportation programmes, particularly for children who face difficulties getting to school.
In the health sector, the candidate said his government would provide free healthcare services for vulnerable groups, with particular attention to mothers and children.
Beyond education and healthcare, Doherty said he would tackle Lagos’ housing challenges by pursuing the construction of 150,000 housing units during his first term in office.
