Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has presented a proposed 490.74 billion naira budget for the 2027 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, outlining plans to strengthen infrastructure and improve the living conditions of residents. The proposal, tagged Budget of Sustained Progress and Prosperity, is designed to advance the state’s development agenda over the next four years.
The spending plan provides 275.68 billion naira for recurrent expenditure, covering government operations and other regular obligations, while 215.06 billion naira is earmarked for capital projects. The proposal is also aligned with Ekiti’s long-term development plan, which runs from 2021 to 2051.
According to the governor, priority areas include education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development, road construction, industrialisation, youth empowerment and job creation. The administration also plans to support food production, improve public services and complete ongoing projects across the state.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, assured that lawmakers would carefully examine the proposal before granting approval. He said the review would focus on realistic revenue projections, compliance with financial regulations, public participation and fair distribution of development projects across the state’s senatorial districts and local government areas.
The proposed budget represents an increase of approximately 18 per cent over the 415.57 billion naira approved for 2026. Its implementation will depend on legislative approval and the government’s ability to generate the expected revenue, while residents will be looking for measurable improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education and employment opportunities.
