The Lagos State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has reaffirmed his support for Atiku Abubakar as his preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election. He said his position is based on his current membership of the ADC and the party’s choice of presidential candidate.
Rhodes-Vivour, however, said his political alignment with Atiku does not mean he has fallen out with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi. He explained that his relationship with Obi remains cordial despite the different political directions taken by the two politicians ahead of the next general election.
He also recalled that his political journey had brought him into the same camp with both Atiku and Obi at different times. According to him, the political configuration changed between previous election cycles, with the two men eventually pursuing separate presidential ambitions.
The ADC candidate said his immediate political attention is focused on Lagos State, where he is seeking the governorship. He maintained that his decisions will be guided by what he considers important for Lagos, while continuing to work within the ADC structure.
Rhodes-Vivour also called on Nigerians to make their own choices at the polls based on their convictions. He stressed the importance of a credible electoral process in which citizens are able to express their preferences and have their votes properly counted.
