Hon. Paschal Karibe Ojigwe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, has expressed sadness over the death of Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, founder of Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State.

Ojigwe described the passing of the renowned educationist, entrepreneur and philanthropist as a painful loss to Abia State and Nigeria, particularly the education sector, where the late professor made significant contributions to human capital development.

Professor Ibe’s death was announced by the Ibe Royal Family of Amaokwe Achara Autonomous Community in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. According to the family, he passed away after battling health challenges.

Reacting to the development, Ojigwe acknowledged the late professor’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities, empowering young people and supporting initiatives that promote self-reliance and community development.

He noted that the establishment of Gregory University, Uturu, reflected Professor Ibe’s belief in education as a vital instrument for transforming society and equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Bende Federal Constituency hopeful also recognised the deceased’s contributions through initiatives such as Skill ‘G’ Ltd. and Innov8 Hub, which focused on skills acquisition, innovation and empowerment.

Ojigwe said Professor Ibe’s impact extended beyond his professional achievements, pointing to his philanthropic activities and dedication to improving lives as important aspects of his legacy.

He extended his condolences to the Ibe family, the management and students of Gregory University, Uturu, as well as friends, associates and all those affected by the loss.

The NDC candidate prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear the loss, noting that his contributions to education and community development would continue to inspire future generations.
